Public Support invites you to our inaugural exhibition: Brain Fog by British artist Matt Welch.

For the first exhibition at Public Support, Welch has built hanging structures in the gallery made from plastic sheeting used primarily in the building industry. Enclosed within these murky, semi-transparent environments is a two channel film with sound.

The film is inspired by the book The Stranger In the Woods by Michael Finkel which gives an account of the life of Christopher Thomas Knight, a man who lived for 27 years without any human contact in the woods of Maine, USA.

In Welch’s film, handycam footage documents a camping trip in a forest near the gallery at Vestfossen. In its motives and direction the film falls short of being an educational or instructional video, instead becoming a performative task which examines our projected relationship to nature against a cinematic-romantic notion of entering the wild.
